ABOUT THE MANAGING PRINCIPAL
Kathy Scarbrough came from humble beginnings in Roosevelt City in Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated from Midflield High School and saw a need for more black-owned and supported business in our community. The commitment to understanding the needs of her people led her to seek and obtain a degree in Psychology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Her leadership capabilities and characteristics led to her long-standing career in the Navy and the Marine Corp Reserve, where she severed as an Information Technology/Intelligence Petty Officer and Leading Petty Officer. These positions led to the development and refinement of her leadership skills. She developed training plans and instruction materials for her unit. This dedication and service resulted in her receiving the Navy Achievement Award, and a promotion to E-6.
Her continued drive toward entrepreneurship led her to obtain a Master of Business Administration/Finance and Accounting from Regis University, and a career with the Transportation Security Administration in Birmingham, Alabama. This career provided her with the interpersonal skills needed to supervise, delegate authority, and provide human resource capabilities (scheduling, benefit packages, conflict management resolution, ect.) to those workers under her leadership. Her desire to protect and serve travelers led her to receive TSO of the Year in 2011, and further fueled her desire to educate and support other black business owners. This entrepreneurial spirit continued to burn, and further sparked her desire to branch out to open and start several businesses.
Currently, Kathy oversees the daily operation of one tax business, and a thriving facilities management business. She frequently networks with, and provides support to, others who have the same entrepreneurial spirit through her up-and-coming radio show, "My Business Birmingham." Her desire to provide African Americans with their own economic resources to support their communities shines through her community service and dedication to others. She proves not only can a single mother do great things, but excel at them. Her persistence, passion, and patience causes her to be self-reliant and self-sufficient. She constantly brainstorms to come up with new and innovative ideas that will revitalize out communities. She lives by the motto, "Opportunists seek for a chance. Entrepreneurs make new chances." This level of thinking propels her forward and into the modern realm of new-age thinking for African Americans.
